The GREAT Front Yard Project

So this past week while Mom was in Arkansas ~~ I set out on a mission to redo Mom’s front yard. I soon discovered that Texas Clay is VERY VERY hard to dig into ~~

I do not have a good picture of the front before ~~ But this is the best I have right now ~~

Anyway I had to borrow John's truck to get a tiller from Home Depot ~~ just so I could get through the ground to dig it up ~~ The bad thing about that was once you till up the grass you have to rake it and get rid of it ~~ The for the beds and the path you have to dig up the dirt and move it to another locations.

Jennifer agreed to help and we were lucky enough to find a wheel barrel full of rock and bricks that the construction workers throw in and covered up in my Mom yard. Trust me when I say that if you are digging and you hit one of those things with a shovel or a tiller ~~ It HURTS!!

Well on Saturday after finally getting the path to the house and the flower bed tilled and dug I realized I needed to get the rock. What I failed to realize was that most rock places close at noon on Saturday. I happened to find one in Plano that was open till three ~~ so in a mad dash since I only had time to make one trip ~~ I got Jennifer, mine, John's truck, and Jonathans car to go the stone yard to pick up as much as possible. It is amazing to know that Jennifer's COV, my matrix, and Jon's scion all can hold about 800lbs plus. We also (for John's education) loaded up the truck with about . . . . well we were told about 2700 lbs, but who knows ~~ seeing as John's truck is supposed to be a half ton truck this should not have been possible . . . . . .BUT . . . . as you can see it was possible and we made it home :O)

That night my friend Carlen and her husband with her kidos came over and helped us out ~~ it took Saturday and Sunday and me finishing up details on Monday to get it done , but we got it done before Mom got home. Did I mention that it down poured rain all day Monday so I could not get the rock to finish off the front yard?? Well that will be happening soon ~~ I will post pictures.

Anyway I happened to be outside when Mom pulled up and she saw the yard for the first time. She started to pull into the drove way but then hesitated and drove a little further. She saw me rolled down the window and asked where her house was. She was quite excited about the yard and LOVED it!! I think we did a great job!!

Thank you to everyone for the help ~~ the smile on Mom's face made it all worth it!!
