A-kon Alert

For those friends planning on going to A-Kon 16, here's a friendly reminder that the last day to get a cheaper rate for membership of A-kon is April 15th. I'd suggest doing it on-line, however, remember that if you do, you get the receipt via e-mail, and if you trash the e-mail, you trash your ability to claim your membership. You might also notice the a-kon website has changed. They did an update to the design. Personally, it's not visually better, however, it seems to be better organized.

Here's an interesting piece of information from the people of A-kon: Last year we had almost a literal ton of signs (and the people who held them) clogging up the airwalk between the hotel and the convention center. Many of them were not signs that had to do with a costume (aka a giant panda holding a sign, or a ninja with a sign that read 'sneak sneak sneak' (my personal favorite). These signs were in some cases blatant solicitations, begging, or offers of sale ("will do X for $", "need food", "kiss me for $", etc.). These signs not only are a real nuisance to people trying to walk unaccosted through the convention, but in some cases are flat out breaking the law. Dallas has a 'no solicitation' law and we cannot stress the danger of some of those signs (some seem dangerously akin to prostitution, and could result in jailing of an offender, or worse). This has become a phenomena across the country at all kinds of cons, and what was once novel and cute has become hazardous (to the point of breaking fire codes, as well as hazardous to personal safety) and a real nuisance. Cons across the country are cracking down on this as it's dangerous to people and detrimental to the spirit of the con. People want to have fun, not be assaulted by beggars at every turn.

I, myself, remember a lot of those signs too, they were annoying, only a rare few being humorous or cute.

Anyways, not much else going on. School, Karate, study, trying to relax on the computer, etc. That's all for now.

    TUMEO.

It's Thai & Burmese New Years, Songkran, and they celebrate it with the Water Festival all this week... I've been soaked the whole time... :)
