Karate Tournament

Well, I believe I mentioned about the karate people, and making me an instructor and stuff and that I would be going to the Karate Tournament to cheer on people and such, but maybe, maybe I'll participate in the sparring competition. I don't know yet, but I'm thinking about it. I know I am out of shape and all, but this isn't boxing 3 minutes a round or anything, it would be point sparring, so I should be able to handle that. Not sure yet, but what do you guys think?

Here's the website: www.bendoftheriverrumble.com. If I did fight, it would be in the black belt age group of 20 to 29 years old. Interesting, I'll probably talk it over with the Master Instructor today, as he wanted me to go down to Pawnee and visit the school there.

Well, that's all for now, I was going to post the wrecking ball pictures and camera phone video I recorded, but that's on my laptop, and my roomie is using it at the moment to do stuff for Air Force ROTC, so maybe I'll post that after I get back or something.

Body is Screaming

My body is screaming at me right now, "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!!!" I just got back from karate up here at school. I had a good time. I ended up showing up about an hour and half early, thinking the class was at 6pm when it was at 7pm. Apparently it is 7pm on Wednesdays and 6pm on Fridays. Anyways, the 2 black belts decided to, with the consensus of the class, make me an instructor with them. Apparently I still got the goods. Got two patches that need to be sewn onto my gi now. My body will be very very sore tomorrow I imagine, but oh well, maybe I'll be getting back into shape. The instructor is a very cool guy that has beening doing martial arts since he was 2 years old. I believe he is actually 2 years younger than me. He is a 3rd degree Black Belt canidate currently. So, I'll be helping out more, on Monday I'm even going to go down to his school in Pawnee and meet the students there.

The wrecking crane has taken out a good portion of William North so far. I don't feel like writing more about it right now, going to finish scanning in the last of the pictures for my sister, might need to run by Wal-Mart and get some compressed air for the dust though, not a big problem, but my perfectionism is coming out slightly.

    Alright, that's all for now.

Ninjai

Well, I have a lot I want to update about, but since some of it requires photos, and I won't get around to uploading those until maybe tomorrow, I'll just post about the things not involving a wrecking ball and dormatories at the OSU campus.

So, the Ninjai, the Little Ninja team has finally posted Chapter 11 of their little project. For those of you that might recall, it has been quite awhile since they updated. It is evident that they put some time into this one, especially some of the graphics during certain parts, and I was impressed. However, not to get anyone's hopes too high, it did seem slightly brief to me. I am *hoping* that the reason it was breif is because they wanted to get something out there for the fans, and have Chapter 12 close to being finished as well.

In other news, I'm slaving away for my sister, Emily. I'm making her wedding website up and active and all that fun stuff. I am about to start the oh so fun process of scanning in pictures for her.

School is still chugging along, and I am actually ahead on my assignments, yes Mom, I'm actually doing work. It's quite crazy, but what I did was print out a "Master Schedule" of when things are supposed to be turned in and when my exams and quizes are. Fits nicely on a sheet of paper, and I have each week in a single row by itself. A quick scan lets me know what I need for the week. It helps a bit.

Well, that's all for now, and no, I haven't messed anymore with TypeKey or Tiny Orwell, that's after scanning and the wedding webpage.

Moonshiner is I

That's right, I'm a moonshiner now. I'm brewing my own beer.... root beer that is. Just got done mixing the ingredients this afternoon around 4pm, then transferred them into bottles to allow them to ferment. 3~5 days, then 2 weeks in a dark space. We'll see how my own brand of root beer turns out. Now the question, what to call it... Erik has already called me "brewmeister JP", hmmm... I'll have to think of a name.

I just got done watching Life Aquatic with my sister Emily; followed by Elektra with Emily and my mom. Life Aquatic was... interesting. It wasn't too horrible in my opinion, and I kinda enjoyed it. Most people probably wouldn't be too happy if they paid. Elektra was pretty awesome, probably a better spin off then what it spun off of.

Oh well, gotta work in the morning, so maybe I'll head to sleep, might play some games first... might not.

Upgrade Installed

Ok, I've installed the upgrade, still trying to figure out how to get TypeKey to work, please don't try to mess with anything concerning TypeKey yet. I might use another solution called Tiny Orwell. Since we had an older version there are some templates I need to modify, I believe, and I need to figure all of that out.

You can, if you want to for now, setup comments so that they are not posted to the site until you approve them. Also, you'll notice a few facelifts, but the basic menus are still the same, as well as an added "Comments" button where you can view solely comments, making it easier to delete ones that are bad, etc.

Anyways, got to get some food in my belly and then get ready for Survey of American History.

SPAM BE GONE!

I have the new version of Movabletype on my computer right now, and I will be installing it to the server sometime late tonight/early morning and upgrading our version. This will implement the new comment control features, and TypeKey I mentioned in my previous post, which means only certain people that are registered can leave comments. This should completely solve the problem.

Mom, don't worry, you shouldn't see much change at all in how you use Movabletype, you'll just have to login to post comments now. Everyone should go to TypeKey and go ahead and sign-up with an account real quick. You don't have to fill out all the information, just the required bare-minimum it asks for. Emily might want to help Mom and/or Dad sign up real quick.

I'll probably do most of the configuring for this, and most of it is self-explanatory, but if anything needs to be said, I'll post it after I have installed and figured out what it is.

Arrg!!!!! Blah

Spammers are hitting my blog pretty hard, they are hitting some of my other family memebers as well, but most of it seems to be my site. I'm strongly considering talking to my dad about upgrading to movabletype 3.0+ so I can implement some of the features, like only registered people can post comments, registered through TypeKey. Spammers need to die, it's also effecting bandwidth, making pages load slowly during certain times.

Well, on my way home on Saturday from Tulsa, there was apparently a major wreck right at 401st West Avenue and Highway 51. There was even a helicopter there. I ended up taking a back road to get around it. Still wonder what happened there.

No school today b/c of MLK jr. day. I'm sure there were other things I wanted to say, but can't think of it, so I'll get to deleting the 100+ spam posts now.

****Edit (2:26pm) --- Looks like I was wrong, only 94 spam posts, not 100****

Karate

Today I had no classes, so very nice to not have classes on Friday!! I ended up making some Chocolate Heaven. I used all of my new equipment that I got (heh, equipment... not that much, but yeah). The first attempt on the crust turned out poorly because the oven I was using doesn't work all that great. Burned it a little. And I also realized I didn't have any oven mitts, but I solved that problem with a wash cloth. On my way back to my room, I had pretty much decided to throw it out, and was holding it up at an angle, and due to the fact that it was slightly over cooked, it had shrunk a bit, and I saw it starting to fall out of the pan. It fell, onto the floor, yeah, that was fun. But anyways, I got it all made up, and it tastes great. The mixer I got is awesome, so yeppie.

At 6:30 I headed over to the Colvin Center (that's the recreation building) because the "OSU Karate Club" meets every Friday from 7:00 to 9:00pm. I was just going there to sit in and watch what all they did and get a general feel for the atmosphere. Well I got there, and there was another group in a room that was working out, so I checked them out too. They seem pretty cool, and are "American Freesytle Martial Arts", which is what I came from in Plano, TX. The seemed like pretty nice people, and they meet Wednesday's and Friday's at 6:00pm. So I'm going to start going to them as well. The Karate Club was some nice people, so I'll be going to both these groups meetings, one follows the other on Friday, so that's like 3 hours of karate on Friday, but I need the exercise.

I am about to head to bed, and yes, it is only 11pm. Unfortunatly I need to be on the road at about SEVEN AM, that's ON the road, not waking up!!! Gotta trek back to Tulsa and go to a coach's training for AWANA so I can be a line judge/offical at the events this year again. It's always fun, and I enjoy it, just not the waking up early part.

    Anyways, talk to peeps later.

Spring 2005 Classes

I have now had all of my classes once. I actually think I have all good professors, and have a good vibe for my classes this spring semester, which is a good thing. Another huge help is that Zach, my roommate, and I pretty much have the exact same schedule, which works out great for both of us. Plus, 3 out of 4 of us suitemates have a 9am class on tuesday and thursdays, so that should help all of us get to it each day.

Not sure on hardness level of my classes yet, though I don't think government or history will be that tough, but we shall see. All of my classes are pretty large, government by far the largest. He's a chinese man for that, but cracked a few jokes and is pretty easy to understand. His last name is Zhu, but it is pronounced 'Ju(jew)', so he said, "I am a jew(Zhu) from china".

Right now I'm working on a freind's computer. Something wasn't letting her open programs, or something. I think I found it in processes and killed, b/c everything seems to be working alright, got it running a virus scan now from good ol' http://antivirus.com/ (under personal you can do a free on-line scan, and I believe that this is all Erik uses for virus protection). Pretty good, and I use it a lot myself, especially when working on other people's computers.

I'll get done with this, then relax a little playing FFXI, and then get some reading done for history tomorrow.

Calm Before the Storm: 2005

It's Sunday, the day before classes start up again for the Spring Semester. It's a pretty lazy day, nice weather outside too. A change from the last few days. I went to the Union to help Zach pick up books and then Wal-mart to gather supplies to make some Chocolate Heaven on Friday. I still have to pick-up a knife from home, and a few other things I've forgotten, though nothing critical.

It happened again though, kept meaning to post things, then just decided to go to sleep instead. Not a whole lot has gone on though. Just worked a lot, and spent some time with my friends at "teh apartment".

Got my laptop reformated and cleaned up, now need to do the same to my computer. Unfortunatly, I forgot to save one file, my financial spreadsheet. The copy on my computer is old, missing about 6 months of things, which really sucks, but I can get all the info back fortunatly, it'll just be a pain. I've been needing to make a better spreadsheet anyways.

My room is a bit of a mess right now, but that's because everything I've brought up is just laying on the floor, gotta start putting stuff in its place. I kinda want to re-arrange my room, but I'm not sure where I would move stuff.

Well, anyways, luckily I don't have class until 2:30pm tomorrow, going to go play a game for a bit.

Oh, and Jay made it over to the Thailand area fine. He's been to an internet cafe a few times, buys 30 minutes at a time I think. Glad he made it safely and hope he has a good time with all his work.

For Jay

    Here's a picture for Jay:

Fun times. Anyways, my grandpa Potter just left this morning at about 6am. I was over at "teh apartment" hanging with my friends until about 5:40am. I figured he would be up and probably leaving soon, so I left so I could say goodbye to him. As I recall it is an 11 hour or so drive from Tulsa to Mississippi, but it might only be 10 or so, I just can't remember.

I enjoyed grandpa's visit, as always. Got to build him a new computer, though it is probably far far more than he needs, hopefully it won't cause him any problems. Also set him up with a new e-mail account at yahoo since his old e-mail was getting bombarded (no pun intended [he was flight engineer on a B-29 bomber]) with spam. After I got it hooked up, I checked for new messages. He had 1150 or so new messages since December 17th. It looked like only 10 where from people he new and the rest were all spam.

I have the next two days off from work, then I work two days, then it'll be time to start heading up to ye ol' dorm. Tomorrow I plan to head up there and take a few of my bigger things back up, like my main computer, the tv and clothes. I'll probably start living up there on Saturday, maybe Friday.

Jay is heading off to Thailand most likely on Wednesday by the look of things, so good luck to you Jay, hope the flights go well, and that all the things you are going to be doing will go well. Take lots of pictures.

I suppose that is all for now.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Happy New Year everyone!!! It's 2005 now, remember to write down the correct date on all of your checks and other important papers.

I actual will take the time to make a few resolutions this year. Namely, creating more stop-action movies, and doing some more webwork. I hope I do this, b/c I think I would enjoy myself a lot more. Another thing is to start working out again, that would be good, I'm so out of shape, uggg. I also resolve to stop trying to beat Nick and Joe at posting comments on Erik's blog, and just posting when I can =P
