My hand and 596 + 193

On Wednesday night at Karate, I managed to hurt my right hand. We were sparring and my thumb got caught on a person's uniform and was pulled back. It's been bothering me somewhat. On Thursday night before I headed back to OSU, my sister, the nurse, looked at it and noticed it had been swelling. So anyways, I put ice on it when I got back, and then today, I went to the voodoo doctor (the OSU student health services place) and had them x-ray it and stuff. No fractures or breaks, so that's good. Just a hyper-extended thumb muscle in my hand. I shouldn't be using it, but I probably will anyways. I'll try not to,really, and I'll use atheltic tape on it to keep me from using it during karate. Kinda need the hand to write with and such though. Trying to get used to pressing the space bar with my left thumb, but it takes about 2 times as long as it does with my right thumb, so....

In other news, since I installed MT-Blacklist, it has now denied 596 spam comments and still has the orginial 193 it moderated from the first 24 hours, now blocking a lot that would have been moderated before.

That's about it, so I'm going to go relax and try not to use my thumb, which sucks, a lot.

It Works

So far, in less than 24 hours, MT-Blacklist has blocked 195 comments and moderated 193 comments. This means that several people should have received several e-mails with questionable comments. I think I will change it so only I receive those e-mails though, that way I can add strings or whatever else. I could just change it so it straight out blocks all comments, even the ones it would normally choose to just moderate, which I think I will do actually, I'll do that right now. If it finds a message it thinks is not right, it will send back a message anyways to the person trying to post. So yeah, you shouldn't be getting any e-mails now.

Just got done taking a test for Human Resource management. I think I did fairly well on it. I'm thinking about taking a nap, got 30 minutes until I need to head to class, good ol' Legal Business.

Spam --- Yet again

Well, as you know, I upgraded Movabletype awhile ago, just upgraded it from 3.14 to 3.15 to fix a possible loop-hole where people can use it to send e-mails or something, there's a fix for the older version of 2.661 that my friends might look into. It was released awhile ago, but I just finally got around to uploading it.

I've enjoyed the new version, as it makes things easier, but I haven't gotten around to messing with TypeKey, or Tiny Orwell to make it so only registered users can post. Spam, recently, has been coming in a lot again, so I went ahead and uploaded the MT-blacklist for MT version 3.1x. So now a lot of spam should be blocked automatically, a few will be moderated and you should receive an e-mail saying such. It will contain a link where you can have the comment deleted and certain information about that post added to the database so it can be blocked in the future. I put this up because it just required uploading, whereas the typekey thing I still have to figure out, maybe during Spring Break.

Anyways, that aside, not too much has been going on with me. My grades are pretty good this semester. I forsee all B's easily, most likely two A's and maybe another. Of course it is still early to tell for sure, but I feel pretty good.

Now, as far as the rest of my scholastic career. Depending on if Golden Age of Russian Poetry ends up transferring over as a humanities plus international, I will have either 4 or 5 classes left to graduate plus the 2 classes I'll take at TCC during the summer. This would set me as graduating at the end of the coming Fall 2005 semester. Apparently, it would take 2 classes for me to minor in Management, and 3 to minor in Accounting (or any other of a number of business minors). Of course, to get these minors, the classes are all 4000 level courses, so they wouldn't be easy. I'm also thinking of swinging by the arts & sciences and seeing how many I need to minor in Computer Science. I'm not sure if I want to be in school any longer, however, but I think I'll figure out a lot on Thursday.

Anyways, time for a shower, then gotta get homework down for history.

Hitched

No, I'm not talking about the movie, Hitch, nor my sister getting married, but my friend, Erik. He purposed to Tara on Valentine's Day. Looks like another one of my friends is heading towards the married life. They probably aren't planning to actually get married for some time, but now they are engaged. I'm not too suprised by it, they have been dating for quite some time, and make a very good couple, still seems crazy at the same time though. Here's wishing them the best of happiness when they finally become married, and plenty until they do!

Nothing much else to mention, except my friend, Nick, appears to be alive after all. Now I need to inform the police so they will call off the missing person's search.

Just got done taking my Business Law exam, no earthly idea on how I did. I have government class coming up, so got to finish eating then head out.

Where am I?

It's amazing how things change from what you planned. I was planning to have lots of free time this semester, and instead, I don't seem to have much at all. It's not necessarily a bad thing though. Karate really threw me off, was planning on going to karate every other Friday, now I'm helping instruct karate every monday and wednesday night, as well as every other Friday. I'm really enjoying it, and now I realize I can probably start working towards my 2nd degree black belt pretty soon.

Not much else going on, just class, karate, gaming when I can, and AWANA, plus work on Thursdays of course. And I'm still working on my sister's Wedding Website. Only the main page is up right now, and has been for awhile. I got a guestbook up and running as well, hopefully I can get some more done this week.

Alright, got to start heading to Pawnee to help with the class there.

Sadness and Picture

Sadness, my moonshining has not resulted in very good tasting rootbeer it would seem. It is a little on the... bitter side, I think. It's kinda of hard to determine what it is. At first I was thinking maybe it needed more sugar, but know, I think it was something else. During the initial fermentation stage, for 3-5 days when it is suppose to be in a light area, you are suppose to keep the temperature between 70~75 degrees. This was when it was pretty cold outside, so I think my room wasn't warm enough and perhaps not enough light got to it either. This probably messed with the yeast and caused it to not ferment as it should have. I'll be trying another batch soon, but I'll have to figure out how to keep it in a more constant tempature range, probably downstairs somewhere.

Got a copy of my sister's pictures from the tournment, there were so much better ones. She also recorded a little video from the fight with her camera, and I'm very impressed with the quailty.

The video is me fighting the 7th degree black belt. I realized after watching it a lot of my weakness that I need to work on. Things I've forgotten about, like dropping my hands when I kick, which the 7th degree noticed as well. There's a break called, and that's because my glove came loose. Here's the video: karate.mov(~13MB)

Here's a good picture of me giving the third degree a backhand to the side of the head and him punching my arm:

Karate Tournament & Tests

Well, the karate tournament went fairly well. It was a little wierd in how it was run, not quite typical of most tournaments, but it was Mr. Scott's first time to run one. Not a huge turn-out, but still a pretty good one. The instructors from the other schools were friendly, and these are the people I ended up fighting when it finally came my time to spar.

There was only 3 of us that fought, which meant one of us would have a "by", which basically means you get to skip a fight. There was a 7th degree black belt, 3rd degree black belt, and myself, a 1st degree black belt. To be a 7th degree black belt usually requires several years of being a black belt, and most are of the age 40+.

The first match was the 7th degree versus me. It was a fun fight. You win by either having a 5 point spread or most after 2 minutes. He definatly had more experience fighting, and in the end beat me by 5 points. In these fights, it's always what the judges see, and depends on more judges seeing your strikes before the other guy's. Then the 7th degree fought the 3rd degree, and beat him as well. Normally this would mean the 7th degree gets 1st, 3rd degree gets 2nd and I get 3rd, but we decided we might as well have the 3rd degree and myself fight. In this fight I ended up getting the 5-point spread over him and won. The fight could have gone on longer, but I don't think the judges saw a reverse punch he landed on my ribs/stomach area.

So I the end, I got 2nd place. It wasn't a big fight, but I had fun. I'm definatly out of shape and need to get to running and doing push-ups and sit-ups. I don't really have any great pictures from the fighting. Someone else was using my camera, and I really should have set it up for action/sport shots, but didn't think about it until afterwards. Most of the pictures are streaks of motion. My sister might have gotten better ones though. Here's a decent picture:

Here I'm throwing a kick to, I think, his head.

I've taken 3 exams so far, with my 4th exam on Tuesday of next week in business law. I feel I did well on all of them. I ended up with a 41/50 on human resource management, 78% in government with a class average of 74%, and I do not know my grade in History yet. So far in history, i've gotten 10/10, 9/10, 10/10, 40/40 for assignments, so I think I'm doing ok in it. The 10's are homework and the 40 is in class writing assignment. I did think I did a lot better on the goverment exam, but they had a sheet where you put X in the letter you though was the answer, and it only had a, b, c and d, so I think maybe, on some of the ones I was answering d to, i might have marked C, as I'm used to 5 blanks on the scantron, so I marked my d's one for the far right choice. Didn't start to worry about it until after I turned in my test, oh well, next time I'll double check.

    That's all, I think.

Wrecking Ball

So, yeah, that building that is being taken down piece by piece, I took pictures and such of it a long time ago. It was funny, because the first few hits of the wrecking ball just bounced off. You can listen to this video file and hear when the ball hits and the laughing of the crowd. It's recorded from my phone, and due to the distance, not great visual of the wrecking process. Quick Time is able to display that file, not sure anything else can though, labeled as a ".3gp" file.

Since the video file isn't good enough for visuals, here's some pictures:

Here's the crane swinging back with the ball:

Here's the ball about to hit the building, where it just hits and doesn't do a thing:

Here's where there is finally a hole in the building, FINALLY:

More distruction:

Yay, finally something that shows destruction, debris!!:

And a good close-up of the ball swinging and lots of wreckage:

And that's the wrecking of the building. It's about half down now.

The time has come

Here it is, about 30 minutes before I am going to start the drive to Pawnee for the karate tournament. I don't know what time I'll actually be fighting at, but things kick-off around 11pm with the School Roll call. If I manage to get 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place in my division, then I'll be moving on to the Grand Champion fights which should start around 6:30pm.

I'll be calling a few people and letting them know about what time I think I'll be fighting around when I know more myself. If you would like to be one of those persons, just call my cell, if I don't answer it, leave a message. You could also send me a text message if you wanted instead.

Here's a link to the website for the tournament, which has directions on how to get there: http://www.bendoftheriverrumble.com/.

I'll post how things went, but it could go as late as 10:30pm, so it won't be until late.

Laura & Fight

So, apparently my sister, Laura, is trying to act like my other sister, Jennifer. The other day, she walked into her classroom and tripped on some books the janitor had forgotten to pick-up. She then fell, hitting her head on a desk, and landing on her left arm, fracturing it. At least I think that's how it happened, may have been the arm then the head or something. In any case, she got a mild concussion and a fractured hand/arm. She's seen the doctor by now, I believe, but I hope she heals quickly and glad that it was not more serious than that.

I am now, officially signed-up for the karate tournament, so... if you have the misfortune to be of relation to me, or perhaps my friend, feel free to come and watch me get my face squashed in. Though, it is true that I breathe fire, so that might be an advantage for me. It is in pawnee, Oklahoma, directions and such are on that site. Kinda short notice, but maybe those that don't have to work until Saturday evening can come watch, if you are bored and what-not.

That's all for now, and no I haven't forgotten about the wrecking ball, but I'll post that... tomorrow, yeah, that's it, tomorrow.
