It's the last day of August, which means my birthday is all too close. Now I have to come up with things that I want so people can have some sort of clue as what to get me. Of course, I'm not the only person with a birthday in the next month.
Classes have been rolling along slowly. Got my first batch of homework assignments due on Wednesday after labor day. And yeppie, this weekend is labor day weekend, and since I don't have classes on Tuesdays, I actually don't have to come back for class until Wednesday! That's a 5 day weekend for me!!! I will probably be going on a float trip on Saturday with karate people, the rest of the days will most likely be spent catching up on movies in theatres.
I've been keeping up with my work-out, which is good, and have been a little more watchful of what I've been eating lately. I know, even more so now, why I didn't get into working out... it takes up a good chunk of time. My normal work-out is about an hour and half, of course that includes the walking time to the gym. On days I have karate, I'm not exactly sure what I'll do, I'll have to cross that river when I get to it.
A few of my friends are in Norman now. Glad they got moved in. Erik gets to start his first day of non-training and actually work work on Thursday, so best of luck to him with getting adjusted to that! The others are all going to school, so hope they are having fun with classes.
Every thing else seems to be going well, I'm in a bit better of a mood then last week. Well, I have to get to my next class, so that's all for now.
TUMEO.
So, right now I'm typing to you from Dallas, again. Well, Dallas metroplex, but anywho. It's my brother-in-law's, John Mullen, birthday today, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY. He's like 40 or 50 something! Haha, just kidding. We'll be doing some celebrating later tonight for it, he's working right now.
1 week down, 15 more to go! The first week went pretty well. Got some decent professors, and as long as I stay on top of my work load, I should do just fine. It's really nice having Tuesdays and Thursdays off, but at the same time, Monday and Wednesdays do seem quite long. When I get back on Sunday I'll need to do some reading, yeppie.
My body is slowing adjusting to all the changes I'm throwing at it at once. If I go into a coma, don't be suprised. I'm having to get used to my new sleep schedule, which isn't bad at all. I'm waking up around 9~9:30am every day, even without alarms on Tuesday and Thursday, so I think my body is getting used to that, but not completely, still pretty tired midday. I'm also going on a somewhat diet, the thing I mentioned earlier. I'm not full out on it, but I'm eating better slowly, and some better is better than no better. I'm also working out every night. 3 sets of chin-ups/pull-ups/dips/push-ups then 30 minutes on the stationary bicycle. Of course, without having a gym when I'm away from school, I'll have to modify to just push-ups, switching between wide stance and close stance with my arms. I think I'll start doing triangle push-ups too, when I don't have the gym. So last night, just before going to bed, I did 50 push-ups without stopping. I did that a couple of weeks ago too, but this time it was much easier to get to the 50. So that's my starting point. Next Friday I'll see how many more than that I can do at once. The sorest muscles I have right now are the ones on the inside bend of my arms, then probably my triceps are next in line.
Oh yeah, so I used the "assisted" pull-up/chin-up/dip machine. It's pretty nice. The first time I countered my weight with 80 pounds, ~47% of my weight. Next week I'll move it to 70 pounds (~41%) and increase my bicycling up 2 notches of resistance. I'll do that each week, making it harder by the week. So, in theory, October 17th would be the week I start to do pull-ups and dips without any "assistance". Not sure if that'll work out exactly, but that's what I'll be going for, modifying it as I see how my body adjusts.
The demonstartion we did went really well. The kids really seemed to like it at the school we did it at. We'll be going back on Thursday and doing another one and seeing what kids have signed-up. We need at least 5 to make it "worthwhile". The other school we went to we ended up re-scheduling because they won't have the right age group until after school starts, around September 6th. It looks promising though.
I've been a bit out of sorts this last week too, it seems. I think it's mainly because of all the changes I'm throwing at my body, so it's having to get used to things. And, oh man, I got to sleep with my pillow I got from the chiropractor last night (I left it at my house on last Saturday, so I've been using a normal pillow all week). It felt a lot better, my neck was tight a couple days, and today it's just fine after sleeping on that pillow. It really does seem to make a difference. I'm still sorta getting used to it, but I definatly like it.
Alright, well, I suppose I'll try and clean up a few things around my sister's so they won't have as much to do when they get back from shopping.
TUMEO.
I went and worked out at the Colvin Center tonight. I ended up using the weight machine for my triceps, the one with the rope thingy. I figured I needed something to propell my arms a little faster. Then I did the bicycle again and after all that I found this pull-up "cheat" machine. It has a platform you place your knees on, and it has counter-weights so it's easier to do the pull-ups. You can set the weight so it'll be less of your weight you actually have to pull up against. I'll be using that next time.
Classes went well. I like my schedule, Mondays and Wednesdays are kinda long, but at least I only have one class on Friday. And I'll be heading down to Texas sometime after lunch on Friday. I think it'll be a good semester.
I got some demostrations I'll be doing tomorrow at schools for karate after school programs, hopefully that will go well. And with that happening, I'm going to head to bed here pretty soon so I can wake up and get some breakfast then go over the stuff we'll be doing at the demostrations.
TUMEO.
Wow, Monday was a very very very long day. It was just jam packed basically. Had all 4 classes over a 7 hour span with a 70 min break, 45 min break, 15 min break. Well, that's what it would have been if the classes did their full time, I got out early of every class. The teachers seem like they'll be ok. Two I've had before, and they were fine in the past, so I think those classes won't be bad at all. The first teacher of the day *might* be boring, not sure yet, the second seems interesting.
I didn't do an attempt for 100 push-ups on Monday, because after class I ended up going to Pawnee and instructing down there, and when I got back, I went over and fixed the router and wireless setup at Corey, Matt and Zach's house. After that, I went to IHOP and ate with Karate people, and after that, it was past midnight.
I went to the Colvin Center tonight, worked out there. Did my push-ups and dips. I found out that I have a very long ways to go. I could barely do any pull-ups at all. Rather disappointing really. Part of it is probably my triceps, which I need to really work on, and the dips should help with that. Once I can get 3 sets of 15 dips with a real dip machine, instead of chair dips, I think I'll do a lot better on the pull-ups. On Friday I'll go all out on push-ups, I think every Friday, that way I can see how I've improved by how many I can do at max. I also did a bicycle machine for 25 minutes, went 9 miles on it, working on my endurance, felt it in my legs too, of course.
Well, I have classes yet again tomorrow, so I suppose I should be getting to sleep. First I need to send an e-mail to my mom saying some of the other things it looks like I'll be needing.
Oh yeah, Erik already mentioned it on his site, but I'll mention it too, google now has an IM system, like AIM and YIM: GIM. You have to have an e-mail address with them to use it, but it seems cool enough, pretty simple. I think after it is no longer in beta, it might expand to people who don't use them for e-mail, depends on how you read what's on that page I suppose.
TUMEO.
Well, I had a good day yesterday, a busy day, but a good one. Started the day by going to bed at 3am, then waking up at 7am. Went over to martial arts stuff from 8am to 4:30pm. The day started with me helping administer a black belt test. It was a pretty good test too, 2 and a half hours of hard work. Then I helped with 3 non-black belt tests. After the tests there were 3 weapon seminars. Started with a tonfa, which is kinda like a night stick. So I can do a few things with that now. Next was a bokken, which is a "great" katana/samurai sword. The last weapon was nunchaku, but I didn't stay for all of that one, wasn't as interested in them. I've also learned how to use a bo staff. I know a kata, or form, in it.
In other news, I'm up here in Stillwater, yeppie. Classes start tomorrow, non-yeppie. I have 2 teachers I've had in the past, and they are both good, so that is... good. First class is at 10:30am, not too bad.
Time to go and eat some lunch with my roommate, Matt Hafner. Oh, and I suppose I'll be seeing how many push-ups I can do tomorrow.
Oops, I was about to save the entry, but then I looked at the title and realized I didn't mention anything about Brazil. So, the whole martial arts thing was done by Brian Bryans, and he does a lot of mission trips where the do karate demos and minister to people. I was wondering if he was doing any in Jan/Feb/March, as I would be out of school, and could probably do one. It would be a good experience and let me see another country. So I was like, "Since I'll be out of school, I was wondering if you are doing any trips in Jan, or Feb, or" and he said, "March, we're going to Brazil, I'll sign you up", I was like, "oh, ok". Well, it wasn't quite like that, but pretty close. It's during spring break. I'll have to have money of course, but I have some saved up, and maybe I'll see if I could raise support for it. Ok, time for food.
TUMEO.
Well, I think posting what I do everyday might get old, so I'll just say, I did my workout yesterday, and I'll be doing it today. The push-ups are getting easier, so I might jump to 35 per rep.
I'm up in Stillwater right now, but about to head back to Tulsa in a little bit, maybe, not sure just yet. Met one of my suitemates. He seems like a pretty cool guy. Likes cars, is a mechanical engineer person, Junior. The 3rd suitemate is yet undetermined, as one of the guys just canceled last friday. My roommate should be back from Hong Kong on Sunday, I believe. He likes to do traveling too, like Jay. He knows some Japanese, and is learning more.
I raised up my bed so I could put my refridgerator underneath it. Tried out sleeping on it last night. Didn't give me any trouble. I also got a new pillow. Kinda trying it out. Got it from the Chiropractor since I often get cricks in my neck. It worked better well last night, no stiffness, and a restful sleep.
Well, I guess... 3 more days of workout before I'll go ahead and see if I can do 100 straight, in any case, I've definatly been getting stronger, and more in shape, so it's been a good thing.
I would post a reply to a friend, but I would have to say things I would rather not to allow anyone to read, so I think I'll be e-mailing him.
TUMEO.
Talked to a Highschool buddy on AIM a week ago. He's back from Oregon, well, been back from Oregon for a year. He's been going to good old University of Tulsa for a year doing his law degree. I ate lunch with him today, chit-chatted. He's got a fiancee. That's another one that's being taken in by marriage before too long!! Crazy people I tell you, crazy people.
So, Day 5, I kinda took it easy. I did 60 push-ups in the morning, and then I went and worked-out with Mr. Bryan, and did some push-ups there as well. I didn't time myself on any. Afterwards, I talked with him some about things, good upper body work-outs and good "diets" for helping with muscles, as well as getting some (I know I don't have much, but I do have a little "roll" around my belly) fat to go away. He said to do 3 reps each of push-ups, dips and both kinds of pull-ups. He also said he, of course this is for him personally, doesn't do weights much because it causes his hunger to go up so much, he'll eat too much. For food, he said high protein, high fiber, low carbs, low sugar. Less sugar and carbs (low insulin) means the body will eat away at the body instead of eating away at whatever is coming into the body.
So, that was yesterday, and now it is today, Day 6. I did the, yet again, new work-out, and I did better than I've been doing. Though it's because I did it differently. Now I'm just doing 3 sets of push-ups, so I do the push-ups, stand up, kinda walk around, let my arms relax a bit, then do another set, walk around, then the last set. Now, dips, for those of you that don't know, are, at least in my case, as I don't have a gym, is where you raise your body to a roughly 45 degree angle by putting your arms behind your back straight down on a chair, then you lower your body and push-up. Works the triceps really well, boy, I did a set of 10, and was thinking, that wasn't hard, then I went to stretch my tricep, and man, did I feel it. Then was the pull-ups... unfortunatly I didn't get to do these. I thought I could do them on the arbor, but the wood was a little too thick, made it hard to get a good grib do do them, so I did another 3 reps of dips instead.
Wednesday 8/17 DAY
30 push-ups -> 31 sec
30 push-ups -> 38 sec
30 push-ups -> 42 sec
3 sets of 10 dips
3 sets of 10 dips
100 crunches -> 1 min 16 sec
Now I need to finish up throwing away junk from my room (3 full garbage bags worth so far), and then organize it. I have all that I'm bringing to OSU downstairs, at least I hope I do, so that's taken care of. I think I'll do the work-out again tonight as well. [5:11PM]
Not much has happened since earlier today, ended up doing my workout tonight, really starting to feel my triceps from those dips! Tomorrow I'll be heading off to Stillwater to take the last of my stuff up there. I'll be staying up there all of Thursday, and then coming back mid-late Friday, then back up there for school late Saturday. I'm coming back because I'll be helping out with another belt test, as well as a weapons seminar, which should be very interesting.
Wednesday 8/17 EVENING
30 push-ups -> 30 sec
30 push-ups -> 32 sec
30 push-ups -> 35 sec
3 sets of 15 dips
100 crunches -> 1 min 4 sec
Well, now I think I'll head to "teh apartment" and hang with people. I do have Chiropractor at 11:30am, but not like I have to be "awake" for that.
TUMEO.
I ended up letting my arms rest up all of Sunday. My arms weren't sore at all this morning. I'm not sure what it is, maybe I'm going down lower than I did before, or maybe it's something else, but it sure seemed like I did more push-ups before. Right now, my temp goal is to do a set of 100 in at least 4 reps, 30-30-20-20, after that it'll be 40-40-20, then 50-50, not sure how it will all pan out, just gotta keep pushing myself.
Monday 8/15 DAY
30 push-ups/crunches
20 push-ups/crunches
20 push-ups/crunches
15 push-ups/crunches
15 push-ups/crunches
Summary:
6 min 9 sec
100 push-ups (16.26/min)
100 crunches (16.26/min)
A definate improvement, my arms being rested definatly helped. We'll see how fast I knock them off tonight. Going to see the Chiropractor today and see about getting my back re-aligned, I'm pretty sure it's out of whack, which is why such pain lately in my back, plus when I stand up really straight I think it's pinching something and causing me to lose cirulation in my arms some.
Oh yeah, I measured my arms yesterday. 11 1/2" when not flexed, and 13 1/4" when flexed, so I gain 1 3/4" in circumference, yeppie.[12:46PM]
Monday 8/15 EVENING
30 push-ups/crunches
20 push-ups/crunches
20 push-ups/crunches
15 push-ups/crunches
15 push-ups/crunches
Summary:
5 min 34 sec
100 push-ups (17.96/min)
100 push-ups (17.96/min)
Well, I did better at night, wasn't sore by the time I was doing my night push-ups, so my muscles are recovering faster. It was quite as hard to do the reps in higher number, still pauses on during the last reps.
Well, that's about all, I'm going to head over to "teh apartment" and hang out with buddies, since I'll be heading back to college before too long.
Oh yeah, went to the chiropractor, looks like my spine has taken back to a slight S shape, and my neck is out of whack too, the vertabrates going slighty to the left. Going to be getting my spine re-aligned, going again tomorrow.
TUMEO.
Saturday 8/13 DAY
30 push-ups/crunches
20 push-ups/crunches
(stopped time and had some breakfast)
20 push-ups/crunches
10 push-ups/crunches
10 push-ups/crunches
10 push-ups/crunches
Summary:
9 min 18 sec
100 push-ups (10.75/min)
100 crunches (10.75/min)
I tried to see what I could do right after waking up. I probably could have done the 100 set without stopping and eating, but I think my muscles were pretty tired after last night. It's definatly pushing my muscles, I'm going to have to pay them special attention, I don't want to overwork them and hurt them. Anyways, let's see what I can do this evening! [Sat 8/13 10:38AM]
Ok, so now it's Sunday. I did my 100 push-ups last night after cooking some Salmon.
Saturday 8/13 EVENING
30 push-ups/crunches
20 push-ups/crunches
15 push-ups/crunches
15 push-ups/crunches
10 push-ups/crunches
10 push-ups/crunches
Summary:
8 min 15 sec
100 push-ups (12.12/min)
100 crunches (12.12/min)
My arms were still so so soar too. They got to feeling better a little quicker, I think the salmon helped send some protein and such. I'm worried about possibly overworking my muscles. After "breaking them down" the muscle have to rebuild, if I don't let them rest... So I'm going to rest today, Sunday. Depending on how my arms feel, I might do 100 tonight, but none during the day for sure. Then I'll be right back at it on Monday. It really sucks taking a shower lately, at least right after doing the push-ups, harder to raise the arms up that high to wash the hair, and reach around the back. My schedule of might not be kind enough to my muscles, so after Tuesday, I'll see if I might need to revise the workout to just 100 per day, instead of 200.
So, according to some charts, I should weigh around 155 to 168. Currently I am hovering around 168~170 it would seem. I have about 10~15 pounds I need to lose, we'll see how that goes once I start my running workout. I figure 155-160 is a better weight for me, I definatly have some fat I need to get rid of, but then, I have some muscle weight I should probably gain as well.
Anyways, just got back from Church, and my dad should be back with the food any second, so time to go eat. Then it's a day of going through my room and throwing away a lot, and getting the rest ready to go to college with me.
TUMEO.
I fail. First off, you'll notice I didn't post a workout for Wednesday. The main reason, I didn't really complete it. I was in Texas on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Tuesday night I did my leg work out, and had Erik do it as well. His legs were sore afterwards. Wednesday night, by the time it came to when I was about to do my workout, it was 1am. At the time I was doing them I had a headache. After 70 push-ups (a 40 set then a 30), the increased blood circulation made it far worse. The combined lateness (and therefore tiredness) plus headache, I just couldn't keep going. The following morning I did 30 push-ups right after waking up, but I suppose I just didn't have any energy since no food yet at that point. I came home Thursday and ended up working out with a karate school close to the house. I did 50 push-ups and 100 crunches there. It kicked my butt since all I had been doing was muscle workout and not endurance workout. Non-stop for an hour, my body didn't approve.
Tonight, I only managed to do 50 push-ups in 1 minute without stopping. Unacceptable. I have made a decision, enough with slacking off every other day. 100 push-ups and 100 crunches every morning and night of every day. I am now fighting the clock. Higher reps, fewer rests between. 10 days until the 22nd, there should be 2000 push-ups between then and now. That also means that I have another 100 to do before the end of the night. Here's what I did tonight, so far:
Friday 8/12 1st
50 push-ups
20 push-ups (not typo, rested 30 sec then 20 more)
50 crunches
15 push-ups
50 crunches
15 push-ups
Summary
10 minutes
100 push-ups (10/min)
100 crunches (10/min)
I'll let my arms rest for a little while, then 100 more push-ups. Saving this post in "draft" mode and will add how long on the 2nd attempt, as well as more things. [9:26 pm]
Friday 8/12 2nd
30 push-ups/crunches
20 push-ups/crunches
10 push-ups/crunches
10 push-ups/crunches
10 push-ups/crunches
10 push-ups/crunches
10 push-ups/crunches
Summary:
10 min 48 sec
100 push-ups (9.26/min)
100 crunches (9.26/min)
After I stopped the timer, I did an additional 10 push-ups, then after I had drunk 3 glasses of water and several portions of almonds I did another 10, so for the day I did 220 push-ups. Those last 50 push-ups are some of the hardest I've done yet, so hopefully I'll get some muscle growth from it. Right now the time includes crunches, I might stop doing that, but not until I get higher reps, I think.
Use Quicktime to view the following of Erik sitting on a saddle and waving a napkin around in the air! Ride 'em cowboy! That's one of the things I did while down in Texas. The other was play pool with Kane and Emily as well as watch Dukes of Hazard. I also got to spend some time with my nephews, which was fun.
That's all, until next time...

I'm doing better and better it seems on push-ups, which is a good thing. We'll see where I'm really at on Friday. I did a set of 40 today, hopefully Wednesday I'll be able to do a set of 50 or 60, I need to get the higher reps in. Plus, no 10 sets, all 15's at the lowest!
The concert yesterday was pretty rockin'. I had fun, as did Adam. Adam even "moshed", or however it's spelled, a bit. I'm pretty sure he had a good time too. Reel Big Fish were really awesome when they came on stage, and the bands before them were pretty good too. I got a t-shirt and 2 CDs. All-in-all, for my first real concert, a great time! (p.s.- my right ear can still feel the effects of being blasted with loud sounds!)
And of course, a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my new brother-in-law, Kane. Hope he had a fun time, and he and my sister relaxed and enjoyed themselves today.
I'll be going down to Texas tomorrow. Most likely I'll be coming back on Thursday, but possibly on Wednesday night. Going down to visit Erik mainly, and of course to see my sisters, bro-in-laws, and nephews.
I guess that's about it, going to down the rest of my glass of water, talk to some people, and then sleep, well, and a shower too, a bit sweaty from tonights work-out.

So I gained about 16 2/3% over last time. I'm definatly seeing the difference in my arm, especially when I flex. This is the highest amount of push-ups I've done in my life in one sitting. My upper body strength has always been the weakest part of my body, even at my peek when I was around 15~17, I don't know if I could have done this with push-ups, maybe, but not sure if I would have really tried it. It always frustrated me about my push-up ability, and now I'm finally pushing my limits. First day of classes is August 23rd. That means we'll see how many I am able to pull off on August 22nd. I've been thinking about the goal I set for myself. Not sure if I'm going to try and make a time limit as well. For Zach's air force PT test, he does 70 push-ups in 1 min. Maybe a 2 min time limit.. we'll see. I have 6 more work-out days for push-ups to go, and based on my progress thus far, it's looking pretty good. Monday, Wednesday and Friday = Upper body (push-ups) and Abs(crunches/sit-ups); Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday = Lower body (legs), Sunday = rest. That's what I'm making my current work-out "program" be.
Starworld... is now officially unimportant and..... grrrr towards me. Day before I left for Arkansas (Wednesday), home office came down again. They asked Steve to leave, as a result, Red quit, not just because of them asking Steve to go, but a few other reasons. I'll still get free movies from the place for awhile, but it's so stupid. I've lost a little respect for Matt now as well, and have no feelings towards helping the place out now. I'd go in more detail, but it's a bit hard to communicate and explain, especially to those outside, which is basically everyone. It's very sad, and I wonder if how much that place will really fall apart in the next months and year.
On a happy note, I got a letter from Zach over at officer boot camp. He's doing well, it's stressful, but he's getting through it. I think I might have my dates wrong on when I thought he'd be coming back. Maybe a week off, or half a week off, rather. I think he'll be back around the 17th, where before I was thinking 12th or 15th.
Arkansas was fun. I got to see my Grandma Smith and talk with her about things. I also watered her lawn and plants, and raked up leaves in the front yard. My Aunt Sharon, her husband, and my cousin Anna came up Friday night. Uncle Herald ended up grilling for lunch today before we left to come back. All-in-all a good visit.
I'm sure I'll be heading over to "teh apartment" before too long and seeing the guys. I might try and pick-up the tickets for the concert tomorrow evening, if I can figure out where I would do that, else I'll just be picking them up the day of. Anyways, things to do.

I don't know what it was, but I just had to keep going today. I very well might have been able to do another 5 sets of 10 push-ups, but I think enough time had lapsed, I mean, if I had all night, I could push really far, but it's about how many I can do in one setting. I did sit-ups today, instead of crunches. It's really weird, I haven't been feeling "the burn" in my stomach since the 2nd day, monday it was like I didn't do any. Well, today I had same thing. I kept doing the sit-ups, and slowly it was harder to do more, but I still wasn't feeling anything. Finally on the last 2 sets I felt some burn. Right now I'm really feeling it in my triceps and my chest. I think I was right at my limit, and I decided to keep going, that's when you really start to get the work-out, your mind forcing your body to keep going for just 10 more, even though your body says it can't. After the first set of 10, that's all it was, I just kept saying 10 more. Now I have a heck of a thing to shoot for on Friday evening.
Tomorrow I will be spending most of the morning and afternoon in a car headed to Arkansas. I'm going up to visit my Grandma Smith. I'll probably be sleeping most of the time in the car, and I'm sure I'll be sore. It's been awhile since I've seen her, so it should be a good trip. I'll bring my laptop so I can watch some anime at night.
My head is swirling a bit, so I'm going to go drink some water, replinish myself, I sweated, haven't really before, not where it was dripping from my forehead. Back in town either late Saturday or afternoon Sunday.

So I did some more, and boy can I feel it in my triceps, those last 10 and then 5 I could really "feel the burn" (I don't know if you heard me counting...).
I'll be going up to Arkansas on Thursday through probably Saturday/early Sunday to visit my Grandma Smith. Sunday evening will be the concert. Right now I'm going with Adam, should be fun, even if a some people seem to judge how a concert will be based off a one cd, even though they liked the previous cds! =P
Not much else to report right now, pretty sleepy/tired at the moment, probably going to stay up and watch some Anime.
