Remembrance Day

Just wanted to express my gratitude to the war veterans who fought in WWI, WWII and the Korean War. Without you, we would probably live in a world ruled by samurais, as well as Hitler's and Mussolini's grandkids... oh and Kim Jong Il too. How twisted would that be???

And many thanks for those Canadian peacekeepers who are deployed around the world to make the world safer.

Busy 好忙

Been really busy lately with school and work... the usual stuff. Last week I had to work 26 hrs and this week back to my normal 16 hrs. Been feeling a lot of pressure from school with the weekly labs and papers due. On top of that, I just noticed that all the final projects/papers are due last day of school... that's 3 weeks from now. That's been stressing me a little.... I don't want to wait till the last few days to do all of it. Someone needs to come up with a cure for the procrastination disease... whoever finds a cure will win the Nobel Peace Prize and make lots of money from victims like me.

Looks like the urban fighting in Fallujah is going "well". Unfortunately it will just alienate the rest of the country and spark a rebellion among the Sunni population... but it must be done *sighs*. Also, I don't understand why the terrorists didn't just leave the city along with the civilians days after the warning. You would think that's the smart thing to do.

Today co-op gave me this emergency contact card for when I'm away. He said if I'm ever in a serious difficulty in Thailand, I can call the SFU security and homes of the director of SFU International, administrative assistant, international mobility coordinator and etc. The fact that I can call their homes is very comforting, but geez, hopefully I will never have to use any of these numbers.

Americans moving to Canada?

new_map.jpg
Gotta love this new map.... its been circulating around the geography department, wouldn't be surprised if it's even in the US too.

I wasn't going to get into the aftermath of the election but how can you not? It's the topic in classrooms, newspapers, TV, and even our sleep (nightmares of Bush's foreign policy). Four more years of Bush.... the Democrats are even considering the prospect of moving to Canada. According to Citizenship and Immigration Canada, their website receives about 20,000 visits; the day after the Nov 2 vote, that number soared to 179,000, of which 115,016 were from the U.S. One American who lives in Brooklyn says many people in the U.S. now feel they identify more with Canada than their own country in the wake of the election.

"I'm not alone," said Chris Walsh who is married to a Canadian. "The first thing people said to me when I went to walk my dog in the park this mornign was: 'We're moving to Canada.' People are very disillusioned, and Canada is looking pretty good right now."

So if you are feeling that you are in the same boat... here's my advice: according to CNN's coverage, you can come to Canada and apply for refugee asylum... No worries, my house is only 1 hr from the border, you can come live with me. I sympathize with you Democrats.

And of course I found this comment in the newspapers made by Albert A. Turner (from Alabama) just infuriating... "Canada is becoming irrelevant, much like France and Germany. Keep your rear ends buried in the snow. We (USA) will take care of the Islamic fascists. What ever happened to the tough, hardplaying, independent Canadian male? Y'all have become taken over by loud-mouthed, irrational, 19th-century women."

All I have to say to people like Alberta is that it is you and your government created these "Islamic fascists", thanks to your foreign policies. Second, if Canada and Germany is so insignificant... then dismantle NORAD and why the continuing presence of American military bases in Germany? Lastly, don't get so caught up in your economic and military supremacy.... haven't you heard.... China will be the next super-power in about 50 years. Better start showing some respect before they blow you to pieces in the near future!!!

Man I'm getting really worked up by all this.... we had a huge discussion in biogeography and thought I post it, it is all too interesting. Best of all, no biology!!!

So for those Democrats that are moving to Canada, you better make sure you know what you're getting yourselves into. To quote Joe:

We have a Prime Minister, not a President.
We can proudly sew my country's flag on my backpack.
We believe in peacekeeping, not policing. Diversity, not assimilation, and that the beaver is a truly proud and noble animal.

Oh yeah, I'm going to work in Thailand in January. Everything is confirmed. The reality of me going there is slowly sinking in... not sure how I will handle 6 months of being away.

"Beautiful British Columbia"

There's a reason why the slogan "Beautiful British Columbia" is used... On Halloween I went to Victoria with a few friends to check out the Egyptian exhibit at the Royal Museum. Victoria is the provincial capital located on Vancouver Island, its about 90 minute ferry ride from Vancouver. Alya and I only stayed for one day cuz we had school the next day. Geoff and Mindy stayed for 2 more days because it was her birthday and she wanted to stay at one of the haunted hotels there.

Beautiful place... this would be where I want to retire. Alya and I were looking for her old house from like 15 years ago.

Me on the ferry tired... we got up at 5:30am to catch the 7am ferry and didn't get home till 10pm.

Got more pictures in the gallery. Well, not too much to say…. So exhausted from work, travelling, and school.
