Must Leave

Okay yeah, I need to go to Thailand now. I'm tired of watching the news and hearing about the devastation there... feel so helpless. Even though I can't join the other volunteers and soldiers that are there now, I still want to be in Thailand.

Jason and I have often talked about me joining Canada's peacekeeping force, which I'm proud to say is the largest in the world... Why not? I get to see the world and help out those in need. I guess being shot at while doing routine patrols can't be fun, but then shooting and arresting bad guys can be real fun. :) Maybe after I graduate and get my knee fixed. You can then can call me Colonel MasaJay.

I pretty much bought everything I need for the next 7 months... just need to pack. Hopefully I will have everything I need as I am only bringing one backpack.

Leaving Early for Thailand 早去泰國

Well, I think I will be leaving for Thailand early. Today I found out from my mom that we might indirectly know a few victims from the Asia earthquake tragedy. These victims, in Phuket, are the relatives of our old neighbours in Bangkok. Every time my parents and I are in the city, we make time to go visit them and see how they are (I did see them in 2003, but not the past summer). Originally I wasn't planning on doing any visiting in Bangkok, but given what has happened, I think I might go and see if their families in Phuket are okay. Hopefully they are all fine.

My job is expecting me on Jan 7th, if I can I will be leaving the 2nd to visit. Originally I was gonna leave 3rd or the 4th. Whether I will be able to leave early is unknown because I'm flying standby... we shall see when I leave.

Really sucks this has happened. The worst thing is that these victims have lost everything and they are the poorest of the poor people, especially those from Sri Lanka and India. Keep them in your prayers and any donations you can give to the Red Cross will go a long distance!!!

你在台灣因該有聽到亞洲的大地震吧? 今天媽媽跟我講說我們以前在泰國住的邻居的父母親是在泰國的南部住的(Phuket)… 所以不知道他們的父母親有沒有出事. 如果爸爸, 媽媽還有我有去曼谷的話, 我們都會去看他們一下, 問好. 這次我本來就是要經過曼谷, 我因該去看看他們, 他們的家人是否平安. 所以我想早點去曼谷.

我本來要一月三號或者四號走的… 我為了想去看他們, 所以可能二號走. 要看飛機有沒有空位. 我是很想去泰國南部幫忙的, 那是不可能的. 所以就捐錢Red Cross, 让他們幫那邊的人.

Busy Day When Jon Gets Here

I got my GIS exam coming up in about 3 hrs. Can't say I'm looking forward to it. I've put in time for studying... and can't say I feel confident. My previous exam was not too bad. The one on Saturday should be alright, just gotta make sure I go over the materials.

Tomorrow is the day Jon arrives. Will be a busy day driving around the city. First I have to go to the Thai Consulate in downtown to pick up my passport. Then I make my way to the Chinese Consulate to apply for a tourist visa.

After all this is taken care of I will be going to the airport to pick up Jon and then I will have to jet to attend a meeting up at SFU for the Thailand job. That will be about 2 hours long.

I'm looking forward to all this driving. Finally get to go out and sure beats staying home and studying.

Errrrrrrr

Damnit, I have to go to work AGAIN! Just got called into work today because Mindy is still sick. I have worked 6 days last week, close to 30 hrs, and had to finish papers and write one exam. And today is my 5th day working in a row....

God, please give me a break or make my 2 exams this week easy. Can't wait till Jon gets here on Thursday and my last final on Saturday...

What a Night 看低下

阿姨, 我低下12月10號有寫給你看.

Saturday night was full of events. When I got off from work at 9, Joey and I decided we go check out Krispy Kreme out in Delta with Geoff and Mindy. But before we even left the North Shore, we found out there was a massive construction nail in my rear tire. Fortunately it was a slow leak and was able to drive it. After Krispy Kreme we went for bubble tea because drinks were way overpriced at KK. As we made our way home after bubble tea, it wasn't till we got to Second Narrows Bridge did we find out traffic was halted for unknown reason. This was at 1am!!! Instead of waiting for who knows how long, we drove to the other side of the city to use the Lions Gate Bridge. But right before we got on that bridge... we witnessed a sedan flip. Saw it right when it happened. Bystanders were able to rescue the guy in the back but not the driver... I hope he's okay. We stayed for about 10 mins and then left. Never a dull moment in this city.

Next 2 days and tonights I will be studying non-stop. I've decided I want to go to the Institute of Asian Research school at University of British Columbia. It's the only graduate program that will allow me to integrate my environmental and Asian studies and with a focus on international development. I'm leaving the geography department. Beside the environmental geography stuff, I am bored with all the other geography courses. I can't believe how broad this department is. If I don't get into this program I'm not sure what I will do after I graduate... so now this is my new source of motivation.

結婚 Wedding (in Taiwan)

阿姨, 我弟今天收到你的email了. 我媽現在想說你有沒有弄錯結婚的日期. 因為你前幾天在這blog裡面說是三月二十號. 那在email裡面又說是三月二十二號. 我媽這幾天會打電話給大阿姨問問看.

我想說三月二十二號結婚是比較好的. 這樣他們因該可以回台灣參加結婚. 弟弟和媽媽是再三月二十一號(星期一)就開始放假, 忠共要放假兩個星期. 他們本來想說這兩個星期有那麼多時間, 可以去泰國看我幾天. 那如果結婚是在二十二號的話, 那也應該可以回台灣參加. 結婚完的時候就去泰國看我. 如果是這樣的話, 他們十八號或者十九號就可以上飛機回台灣.

我想的對不對? 那我的話, 沒辦法去, 我會在泰國上班.

Just discussing with one of my aunt in Taiwan about my cousin's (whom I still haven't met yet) wedding in March. She's been trying to get us to attend the wedding and it seems like my mom and Joey can attend it because they will be having Spring Break. Josh won't because he doesn't get a break.

That's also when they are planning on visiting me. So it looks like they can make it to the wedding in Taiwan and then visit me in Thailand. Yay! I will have visitors!!! Did I mention that anyone who visit me can ride my elephant....?

I finished one of my exam today, it was the Asian studies one. The two hard ones are next week, Wednesday and Thursday. I can almost see the light.

I Hate GIS 不喜歡這地理課

Ugh, I'm so fed up with GIS... it has completely ruined my semester. The course is poorly planned and here's the kicker... besides the main computer lab, there's only about 12 computers available for 4-5 classes of at least 40 students. So at the end of the semester everyone is lining up to use the computers. To top that off, my TA is useless and has a history of students complaining about him. I want to know why the geography department is still letting him be a TA? I guess its because he's a grad student, he needs the money....

My other 3 courses are going really well. I should be getting something like A-, B, and B. As for GIS, probably a C or something. Right now I'm finishing up a map report for the mini-map project. Here's what my map looks like, I'm not even sure if I did it what I'm suppose to be doing. Might go back and do some changes.

除了這個課, 我別的三門課都應該還好. 這課我的分數應該不會很高的.

Meh 沒什麼事

Well I guess I should update since it has been weeks since I last wrote. Just haven't feel like updating cause stress with with school, family and preparing for trip.

For school, I had one project due today. This weekend will be writing a 10 page paper due Monday, which is the last day of classes. I've also got a short GIS presentation that day and then my map and map report is due Wednesday, followed by an exam on Thursday. Won't be a fun week at all!

As for trip preparation, I got my passport changed and also got half of my shots. They gave me shots for the flu, polio, Hep A & B, and something elset. Middle of this month I will have to get another set of Hep A & B shot and some other ones I think.

Boring but that's it for now.

已經很久沒寫了. 都一直在忙, 學校下星期一就是最後一天. 今天有個報告要給老師, 星期一和星期三也有報告要給老師. 下個星期一就是要考試了, 我要考到十八號, 所以會一直在忙.

槍擊個星期我也辦了些是跟我要出過有關的. 拿到了新護照, 還有打針. 上個月打了四個針. 十二月中還要在打寫針.
