No there's not another Danish warship "visiting" (or should I say threatening) Canada, but rather my friend Michelle from Denmark is visiting on Feb 22nd!!!
She surprised me 3 days ago in an email asking me what I was doing in February and if she can come visit after she finishes school. But what really blew me away was the fact that she's able to visit after finishing her Russia-Mongolia-China-Japan trip late November. For those of you that don't know Michelle... I met her and her ex-boyfriend in Cambodia 2 years ago. She and I have been in touch ever since. Apparently it was when she was in Russia on the Trans-Siberian train that she decided to finally visit me in Canada, but just never said anything to me till now. She must have seen all that snow in Russia and thought of Canada. Maybe I should wait till she gets here to let her know there's no snow in Vancouver (except on the mountains).
Man I can't wait till she's here... IT WILL BE AWESOME! She's staying for a few days and then might go to Fernie to visit her sister (she's been doing some skiing there). Michelle only purchased a one way ticket, so I'm not sure what her plans are except visiting for a few days. I really admire her travelling spirit... gotta love people that buy one way tickets.
Before I get busy again or decide to procrastinate, I am going to update this blog... something I've neglected since September 2005. You will probably have noticed my sporadic updates unlike before.
It has been an extremely busy week because of the Roundup 2006 for work. Roundup is the world's largest mineral exploration conference. It is a 4 day conference with about 5,000 people attending, although this year we had 6,000 registered. Little did I know, Vancouver is a world centre in mining with over 850 mining company offices within 10 blocks in the downtown core. Every year they get together and host this conference... very exciting event.
My contract ends in April and now on the hunt again for a co-op job from May till August. At Roundup 14 companies have asked me to email my resume.. 6 of them are private environmental consulting companies... which according to them if you're looking for a regular/permanent position, a Masters degree is required for environmental B.A. students. But if you're in Environmental Sciences or Environmental Engineering, just a B.A. is fine. I swear, we arts students get no respect... I've always suspected this and always planned to do my Masters, but this still sucks.
Anyways, so Roundup was great... I volunteered at the Core Shack Tuesday morning to help the companies set up their cores (also networking) and that night was the Student Networking Event... a chance for the students to discuss openly about vacant jobs with the government and companies... I know I found a few opportunities. Met students from across Canada... some of these PhD guys are really odd, but some are really cool too. Then on Wednesday volunteered as a guide for high school students who are interested in studying mining and geology in university. It has been a long week... getting up at 5am and not getting home till 10pm on some days, although mostly just partying at night... free food and alcohol if you fancy that.
Been really busy past few weeks... Chinese New Year is coming up on Sunday and Saturday might be going down to Seattle with Kendra. She's flying to Miami for vacation and might want me to drive her car back... She's a student like me working in the Ministry but based in Victoria. There's no way I'm taking it to Victoria and go pick it up the week after. So I guess I get her car next week eh?
Oh and I applied for a new job with Environment Canada through co-op. It's for Masters students, but I think I'm qualified... how can they turn me down after reading my awesome cover letter:

Can't get this damn song out of my head... keep listening to it over and over again! Oh and I am slowly getting converted... jury is still out. I will have an actual update when I have "time". Cheers...
