Man I feel totally ripped off.
In the months leading up to my graduation in August, I had been planning on doing some traveling in Burma in September to follow-up on my working experiences with the Burmese refugees 2 years ago. I also wanted to take advantage of my last year of free flights with China Airlines.
And of course I got the job with the ministry and they asked me to start right away. So I gave up my trip and moved to Victoria.
Who would of thought that massive protests, led by monks, are taking place across Burma now against the military regime. There's hasn't been anything like this since the 1988 demonstrations and I could of been there. I am very bitter and feel completely ripped off... This is history and I passed up this opportunity. Do I need to repeat that I feel RIPPED OFF? Just talked to Susan who is in Bangkok working with a Burmese organization and interesting to the hear the first hand information she gets from Rangoon. For example, a Phillipine media crew was arrested for filming the events inside the country.
I worked in Vancouver last week, spent 5 days including the weekends. Andrea and I decided we want to travel the Silk Road from China to Iran in 2009 for 3 months before graduate school... we're now doubling our efforts to save money.
It's week 3 in Victoria and the job has been great so far. Far better than I ever expected considering it is government... my own office rather than a cubby hole. My title is great too... they made me a Project Manager of the Policy and Sustainability branch. I'm thinking this will be great for graduae school next year for Public Policy programs.
The place where I am staying at, Collette's house (Andrea's sister), is really good. Below are some pictures:
Nice big kitchen where I can experiment with food. Last night I made chicken curry for the first time... "taste and smells great, but didn't look so good" Collette said.
And the big flat screen TV on HD... perfect for hockey and basketball games.
Other than that, been traveling to Vancouver on the weekends. This week will be flying there on Tuesday night for Wednesday meeting. Then flying back Wednesday night, and off to Vancouver again for the weekend. Instead, I will see if I can work out of the Vancouver office Thursday & Friday since I am already in town.
