Robert and I are home after spending night and day at SouthCrest Hospital in Tulsa.Grandpa Potter had a stroke on Tuesday night brought on by a blood clot. After exhaustive testing, doctors now suspect that the clot probably came from blood not being properly pumped out of his upper heart chambers. The blood stayed too long in these chambers and some clotting resulted. They have installed a pacemaker today and hopefully this will keep his heart in proper rhythm. He has been placed on 5 medications and of course the side effects have to be monitored. He will be in the ICU tonight.Grandpa is able to move all body parts though his speech is still slurred. He has been sleeping most of the time but has been alert and making jokes when awake.we hope he can recover completely but time will tell and we just want him to get better.we are encouraged that the heart problem has been corrected and maybe we can begin rehab. That is a somewhat abbrieviated version of the past few nights and days since we called 911 until this afternoon, will keep you informed.

Grandpa Potter and I made some progress on getting aide for Kartina evacuees. We visited Cross Roads Church of Christ yesterday as this is the staging area for all types of aide. We visited the Red Cross, The Salvation Army, IRA, Catholic Charities, HUD and FEMA. All had stations around the gym. We even managed to eat lunch there. Grandpa did get some financial help and all sorts of advice and information.Grandpa cleaned the chairs found among the rubble and we have the china soaking to remove paper and dirt.Lots to do to clean what was recovered and we are working a little at the time. I did have a great visit with my mother over this past weekend and also got to hold my new grandniece, Lily.Getting ready for AWANA tonight as I am teaching the Sparks leaders how to do the Adventureland Series.Robert is in Utah but will return tomorrow afternoon. I think he and Grandpa are going back to ask the FEMA people some questions on Friday. Will keep you posted
Grandpa Potter and Robert are tired but encouraged after arriving in Ocean Springs, Mississippi on Sunday. They have been sorting through the rubble in the house and have found some items almost untouched though most of the contents of the house are totally destroyed as is the house itself. They uncovered china,a chair, Grandpa's bed,a marble dresser top,the file cabinet(unfortunately the papers were pulp), a brief case with important papers that are intact but needed drying, a statue, a painting, a chair....not much but something to bring to Tulsa. The large items will be left with friends until they can be retrieved at a later date. The standing in line to do the required paperwork through FEMA has been a trial and tribulation as has been the task of scheduling the insurance agent to view the house--this should be done today.Robert is hoping to return on Thursday and the latest Friday. My heart goes out to Grandpa and the other people involved in this hurricane.Keep Grandpa in your prayers as decisions have to be made that are painful but necessary. There will be other trips to Ocean Springs in the future but for now all that had to be done has been accomplished.

Jonathan's birthday celebration begins with a few Woverine presents
Robert and Grandpa Potter departed for Ocean Springs around 2:30 this afternoon. They will stay in Marshall,Texas tonight and arrive in OS sometime tomorrow afternoon.Keep them in your prayers as this will be a difficult time as they see the remains of Grandpa's home. Also there are safely concerns for both of them as they walk over the rubble and inspect the inside of the house.Grandpa is holding up well but is having a little problem with his back....Hopefully, we can report some good news in the coming days....will let you know as I hear from Robert from time to time.On another note, we have a brand new baby girl in the family...Lily Elizabeth Smith....born to my brother's son and wife this past week...she is lovely.I hope to see her next week when I travel once again to Arkansas to check on my mother.Jonathan has a birthday Monday which we celebrated early since Robert and Grandpa were leaving for Mississippi.I've been working in the yard as the weeds almost took over in the flower beds while I was in Texas.Awana started at our church this past Wednesday.Lots of work to do this week to prepare for next week.I'm demonstrating the Skipperland series to the Sparks leaders for the next many weeks so they can see how nicely the stories work for the kids.It is strange to be here in this empty house but maybe I'll get some work done finally.I'll try and post more often now that I'm back in Tulsa..at least for awhile???
