Week 2

Well I am through week 2 and looking at the neverending progression of the school year. Week 2 was pretty smooth although I was in a bit of a funk most of the week. Still very aware of my complete incompetence and how far behind I feel most of the time.
This week I managed to spend more time with Rene and bring stuff home less and less. Which is good and something I am going to try to keep on doing. I would rather not bring school work home ever but I don't think that is actually a practical reality.
I am enjoying teaching science but going through stuff much to slowly. Gotta figure out how to pick up the pace without leaving all my students in the dust. Still not totally enjoying coaching and wish that I knew more about volleyball but that's life I guess.
Feeling pretty blah today about it all but hopefully will feel more cheery later.

PS Have been looking at my garden more and it has produced a ton of tomatoes which are very yummy which of course is something I enjoy. I actually rested today which is a minor miracle and well that's all

First week of school

Well I made it. It is Saturday after the first week of school and I am still alive and relatively sane. How did my first week go. Well, it was full very full of trying to have lesson plans ready to go and figure out how to play and coach volleyball and trying to learn all the schools' procedures and forms and all that kind of stuff. In many ways it seemed at least a month long and my head is over full with information. But there were no major discipline incidents or disruptions in my classes which was very good. And I had something for the kids to do everyday and even handed something to give to the parents. Probably not all of it was useful but hey better than nothing.
Getting up at 6:20 every morning is a bit of a killer and I am still trying to figure out how long stuff takes and what my schedule will actually look like. But at least I have begun the race, although the first 400 meters has already been a paniced sprint hopefully I can get in a good rhythm here shortly and make the distance.

PS Have been watching the olympics like a maniac. Gotta say I love them!!!

First week of teacher training

Gotta say after doing three days of my new teacher orientation I feel almost the same level of panic and unpreparedness as before the nto...
I went by the school today and they still aren't for sure if I have a classroom or if I will be floating. Am hoping I might be stable but won't know until Monday (I am crossing my fingers on this one). I am also completly unclear on what my coaching duties will include. Although I believe I will be the B team coach for 7th and 9th grade volleyball, which makes me nervous somewhat.
I will have a mentor teacher who is also in 8th grade science and am hoping to steal from her as much as possible but we'll see. I feel very familar with the material in science but so far think the textbook is pretty inadequate at best and perhaps terribly worded and with incorrect information at worst. But what are you going to do.
The next week of my life will include lots more useless information and lots of cramming before the first week of school begins. I hope this doesn't kill me.

SIGH.... I guess I will have to work out a lot both for my job and stress reduction. Luckily the garden is looking super and Rene and I will actually be making a livable salary so those things make me smile.
Anyone who wants to send lesson plans, procedures, labs, or volleyball information my way feel free.
