OH what fun, vacation.

So after ending a long and tiring school year. ON my first day of vacation, what do I spend my time doing. Yes that's right fixing the floor. We have been planning on laying down tile for two years now. The remodeling process in our house has been slow (we seem to progress in fits and spurts with much downtime). For some reason my husband (he of much logic) decided we should try to get the tile down. Well we didn't get the tile down but we did get the first step done. That is fixing the rotten underlayment and laying down cement backer board. Three days later and we are ready to tile. I think? So that should get done some time in 2009.

New Sewing Desk

So recently encountered a problem. I wanted to finish sewing some dolls I had started for some kids (both young and old) I knew and realized I had no service in my house I could put a sewing machine on. Rene and I had seen a little desk at a furniture store I thought might work as a sewing desk. So we went back to look at it and after some insistence from Rene that we get it we ordered it. Got here recently. Here are some pictures of it. I love it and think it works really well. Can't wait to use it.

In memory

Yesterday I came home from work and our cat Storm (really Feito) was laying on his side in the garage panting. I had been worried about him for several weeks. There had been some strange symptoms but very irregular.
I decided that I couldn't wait any longer and took him to the small animal emergency clinic. It turned out he had a virus called FIP, which is not treatable and fatal. He had fluid in his abdomen and lungs.
I made the very hard decision to put him down.
He was a very sweet cat, rescued after being abandoned by his previous owners. He loved to sit on your lap and be petted. We enjoyed having him. He spent a lot of time in the garage, it is where he felt safe. We will miss him.

4 more days of school

It is hard to believe that after three years of teaching 8th grade science and coaching, I am nearing my final four days. It is bittersweet. I will miss the interactions with my students. It will be sad to not have the opputunity to coach my 7th grade winning volleyball team in the 8th grade. However not having to deal with heavy emphasis on tests and scores will be a relief. Not having to deal with squabbling coaches and all the paperwork associated with coaching, I will not miss.

My husband has once again struck with a surprise. He got me chocalates from a shop we visited last summer in Asheville, North Carolina (an amazing vacation experience if anyone is looking for a place to go).

My husband is the best. He has been so supportive of me exploring other options and put up with my workaholic tendencies while I taught. He won't know what to do with me being at home and not all sorts of stressed out.

Mufasa the big baby

So my cat is not what you would call a hunter. He doesn't seem to know what to do with the animals that come into our yard. He at least stalks some birds the ones he isn't afraid of that is. But squirrels he has given up even pertending to hunt them. Consequently they have no fear of him. The will actually get down on the ground and dig up nuts or eat plants while he is sitting within a couple of yards of them.
Yesterday one actually got on our little patio and chowed down on a dandelion and he didn't even look at the squirrel. Eventally he suantered over to the patio and the squirrel climbed the trellis but he was completly uninterested in the squirrel and the squirrel kind of just chilled at the top.
Yes king of the jungle he is not.

My husband strikes again

So my husband rocks. Once again he surprised me with a sweet gift in my car. This time it was some tulips. I am really amazed at his ability to think of sweet gifts to give. I am nowhere near as good at that sweet gift giving kind of thing as he is. He is determined to celebrate my three years of teaching coming to an end.
It has been a crazy adventure and sometimes I didn't think I would survive it. Teaching has been incredibly hard yet filled with fun life giving moments. Biggest surprise of all is that I have really enjoyed coaching probably the most of anything that I have done. I guess I do take after Mom quite a bit.

Here's what I saw when I got in my car after school on Thursday.

My sweet husband

Imagine my suprise when I got to my car Thursday morning and found a package on the seat of my car waiting for me. I opened it to find the not boots, not sandals, not running shoes shoes I've been looking for, for a year. They are beautiful and I love them. I was so excited I had to run and show everybody at school. Here they are.

Then when I got out of school there was another package in my car seat with another pair of shoes. Also beautiful I love both pairs.

When my husband does good, he does good. I know you are all impressed. Don't be jealous he is mine all mine.

Do you ever feel like this?

small mufasa.jpg

Here's a picture of Mufasa. This kind of sums up how I feel about the future. As of right now I will not be going to Grad School in the fall. I really do not know what the future will hold. But I am curious and looking at a lot of different options. I am actually excited and not that let down by not getting in to UNT.

Don't worry we are still heading to Dallas in the fall and I may be working at Kyle and C.J.'s preschool.
